Qualifications:
Job SummaryThe Respiratory Therapy Director of Clinical Education (DCE) must provide effective leadership in developing, conducting, and ongoing assessment of the clinical education program.
Educational responsibilities include curriculum development and review as well as teaching.
Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position.
Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.
Clinical Activity Management Develop, organize, and administer the clinical curriculum.
Plan for and acquire clinical sites.
Communicate with clinical sites to ensure appropriate supervision/assessment of students.
Have frequent, regular, and consistent contact with students, clinical faculty, and clinical affiliates in all program locations.
Provide clinical site preceptors with orientation regarding their roles and responsibilities, the clinical policies and procedures of the program, and the use of program clinical check-offs for student assessment.
Develop a clinical site preceptor training program that promotes consistency among clinical site preceptors in their clinical evaluations.
Assess the overall effectiveness of the clinical training for all students.
Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure student clinical rotations are coordinated with their didactic and laboratory education.
Program Continuous Review and Analysis:
Identify areas in need of improvement and develop an action plan, implement the plan, and analyze the results.
Implement strategies to support student success, such as tutoring, academic support services, and student retention programs.
Stay current with developments in respiratory therapy education, accreditation standards, and healthcare trends, and use this knowledge to continually improve the program.
Program Planning and Development:
Support and maintain collaborative relationships with business & industry, community-based organizations, and K-16 partners.
Collaborate with the program team in identifying, developing, implementing and evaluating strategic goals and objectives (Team Action Plans, Instructional Vitality Process).
Develop and maintain a comprehensive curriculum for the respiratory therapy program, ensuring it aligns with accreditation standards, educational goals, and industry trends.
Teaching:
Facilitate learning through classroom activities, distance learning experiences, out-of-classroom activities, and the mentoring of students and peers.
Assess and evaluate student performance in alignment with the College assessment plan in a timely manner.
Conduct assigned classes for the scheduled length of time.
Submit final grades by the scheduled due date identified on the academic calendar.
Post and maintain office hours.
Maintain accurate student records, including grades, attendance, and clinical evaluations, and ensure compliance with relevant privacy laws.
Furnish written evaluations as requested by students.
Coordinate instructional support services to meet individual student accommodation and modification needs.
Utilize and engage in professional day activities and team time as designated.
Maintain course outcome summaries, learning plans, Performance Assessment Tasks (PATs), syllabi, and online Learning Management System template in the approved College format and time parameter.
Actively select and use appropriate learning materials and resources including textbooks, library resources, equipment and supplies to enhance learning.
Assist in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a new or modified course/certificate/program.
Stay current and focused on learner needs.
Keep professionally up-to-date in area of content expertise and in the teaching profession.
Participate in institutional, advisory and program team and committee meetings.
Actively support diverse learners.
Attend the College's in-service sessions, and commencements and other activities as directed.
Maintain professional certifications, licensures, and requirements.
Assist in student recruitment and Student Services activities.
Attend College Open Houses (on-campus and off-campus, set-up and take down) to assist with student recruitment.
Maintain documentation as required by accreditation, program, or clinical sites.
Assist, participate, support, and carry out the duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications RequiredIn limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree The Respiratory Therapy Program faculty must have earned at least a baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.
S.
Department of Education (USDE).
Experience:
4-5 years Additional Experience Information:
The Respiratory Therapy faculty must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current state license; have a minimum of four (4) years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care; have a minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/ preceptor for students of such programs.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilityIn order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, including language skills, reasoning and mathematical abilities are essential.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex documents; present topics to internal and external individuals of all levels.
Math Skills:
Ability to perform and work complex calculations, make comparisons, interpret and provide logical explanations to others.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to critically think and solve problems involving a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization; interpret written, oral and diagrammed instructions.
Technical Skills:
Ability to navigate to and between computer applications; read/reply to emails, open/save/close files and applications; find, format and print documents; operate common office equipment.
